Late Forties?

On if the things that WordPress includes in its blog statistics page is “referrers”, aka, links people have followed to my page. Some are perennials, such as search engines and other fat blogs.

Recently one was to a forum I didn’t recognize. Curious, I followed it to a discussion of fat and health, where I was cited as being in my “late forties”.

Me: “LATE forties? 46 is LATE forties? Sure, I’m over 40, but … 46!!  Not 49!!”

Anyway. I’ll be over here waiting for the AARP welcome packet with my hair dye & Daria DVDs.

  1. Wait. Daria DVDs come with an AARP membership? To think, I have been shunning mine for years. (I have a chronic pain condition and so get offered AARP memberships at every drugstore with a rewards card, on account of I purchase more arthritis-type medications than Methuselah.)

  2. Sure, joke about AARP, but I’m 44 and on FB I get sidebar ads all the time for AARP and fabulous offers for those over 50.

  3. I’m 48 and all for the Daria DVD’s, but fuck the hair dye. I started going gray at 27 and am now nearly entirely gray. What’s hilarious is that though I have barely any wrinkles (a couple of tiny lines near my eyes is literally all) I am still given the “senior menu” by the little hostesses at restaurants. I always ask them if they think the manager will allow me the senior discount even though I’m not yet fifty. I suppose it’s bitchy of me to embarrass them, but it’s unwise to make assumptions based on immediate appearances!
I used to go to great lengths to hide my gray, but bleaching was destroying my hair. That’s when I said “fuck it!”

  4. What is so bad about late 40s? The senior discount is just a sales gimmick, not the law. I am 47 and working on age acceptance. I didn’t notice when I stopped being the youngest person in the room at work and conferences. I am a bit scared about 50 – hence my mixed feelings. I am just not ready to go gray. I love my long dark blond hair to much. I know I will eventually go gray, but not until my current hair doesn’t work for me.
