This 2007 interview with Linda Bacon, author of Health at Every Size (review here).

From New York Times writer Gina Kolata, a discussion of various types of medical studies and how to read them (skeptically). The accompanying graphic is cool too.

From Noël Figart, The Unfit Person’s Guide to Fitness. I found this to be a useful starting place when I began exercising after a few years of not exercising. Lots of fitness resources assume you can already do a pushup or run a few miles. This one doesn’t.

  1. That fitness guide would be awesome if the author didn’t repeatedly equate “fat” with “unfit” and vice versa. It was quite confusing to be told that because I am out of shape, my muscles are supposedly working much harder than other people’s. I re-read that sentence five times until I finally moved on to the next and figured out that “out of shape” meant fat in this case. Argh!

  2. Well, I don’t intend unfit as a synonym for fat. Perhaps I should reword.

I mean, I can swim a mile, I’m 5’2″ and weigh over 200 lbs. I’m certainly fitter than most.
