A Few Quotes

These are quotes that have stuck with me lately, so I thought I’d share.

“[E]ven extremely obese women still have a longer life expectancy than normal-weight men.”
Paul Ernsberger, Ph.D.

“Yet, we are not being inundated with scares about the deadliness of being male, millions aren’t spent to eradicate maleness, and men make up a fraction of bariatric patients.”
Sandy Szwarc, BSN, RN, CCP (commenting on the above.)

“How many times have you called tech support and been told “oh, just reboot your modem/router/computer/x-box and it’ll be fine?”  [...] Folks, when this happens, it’s not a conspiracy, it’s someone not entirely fulfilling the duties of their job. [....]  “Just lose some weight and you’ll be fine” is not a conspiracy. It’s one person telling another person that they do not want to invest any time or energy into figuring out and resolving their health issues – they’ve already “decided” what’s wrong.”
The Lindsay of Babble-on

“If you didn’t enjoy sports–and hoo boy, I didn’t–the only, only reason to exercise was to lose weight. Sure, plenty of people gave lip service to the idea of exercising “for your health,” but what that meant was “to lose weight.” Fat was bad and unhealthy. Exercise made it go away. That. Was. All.

So if I exercised and didn’t lose weight, there was no goddamned point, obviously.”
- Kate Harding of Shapely Prose

“There can be no happiness if the things we believe in are different from the things we do.”
Freya Stark

“A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.”
Herm Albright
